Biography

David Barrett received an undergraduate degree in Theoretical Physics from Trinity College Dublin in 2006, and an MSc in Sparse Coding in 2007.  He completed a PhD in Computational Neuroscience and Machine Learning at the Gatsby Unit, UCL, with Professor Peter Latham and Professor Peter Dayan in 2012. After his PhD, he held a joint-research position at the École Normale Supérieure, Paris and the Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown, Lisbon. In May 2014, David joined the Computational and Biological Learning Lab at Cambridge University, where he has been working with Máté Lengyel.  H is also a College Research Associate at St John's College, Cambridge.

Research

David Barrett's research is in the general area of machine learning, deep learning and computational neuroscience.  He is also interested in applications of AI for social good, particularly in domains where sensor data is plentiful and where techniques from deep learning may be applicable.
