The Sensor CDT holds a number of events during the year. Most are aimed at the Sensor CDT students but some are open to interested researchers, academics, industry or the general public.

Sensors Day

The flagship event is the Sensors Day which is generally held in the middle of October. It showcases sensor research from across Cambridge University and internationally leading researchers from across the globe.

Science Festival

Student from the Sensor CDT showcase their research at the Science Festival held in March each year.


The Sensor CDT is organising workshops that are open to the interested public, such as interfacing sensors with Arduino micro controllers or Raspberry Pi mini computers.

Sensor CDT student Tiesheng Wang weaves new material for energy storage

Sensor CDT student Tiesheng Wang and his supervisor Stoyan Smoukov have developed a new supercapacitor made from a "candy cane" like flexible polymer material composite. Its flexibility and higher charge holding properties could enable new sensor applications, such as implantable sensors.
